<\/a>lessons I\u2019ve had to learn is the importance of honesty and transparency\u2014starting with myself. It\u2019s easy to go through life telling yourself comforting half-truths, explaining away your choices, or ignoring your own needs for the sake of peace or survival. But eventually, the truth comes knocking, and it demands to be seen. I had to face myself this year\u2014my habits, my patterns, the way I kept avoiding the parts of me that needed the most care. And in that process, I had to reckon with the consequences of my self-neglect.<\/p>\n\n\n\nI lost someone I loved deeply because I wasn\u2019t taking care of myself. I was pouring from an empty cup, giving what I thought was love, but it was often laced with insecurity, exhaustion, and unmet needs I hadn’t addressed. I kept trying to be enough for both of us, without realizing that I hadn\u2019t yet learned how to be enough for myself. That loss broke something in me\u2014but it also woke something up. I realized that no matter how much you love someone, if you haven\u2019t done the inner work, love alone won\u2019t sustain a relationship. You have to show up whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That painful experience forced me to see just how vital self-love truly is. Not in a clich\u00e9 way, but in the kind of way that says: \u201cI deserve care. I deserve peace. I deserve to know myself and honor what I find there.\u201d You have to love yourself first\u2014not because it\u2019s trendy advice, but because it\u2019s the only way to build anything real with another person. Otherwise, you\u2019re building on shaky ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year also taught me that life doesn\u2019t always give you what you want, but it will give you what you need to grow. There were moments of deep uncertainty, personal challenges, days I didn\u2019t recognize myself. But through it all, I\u2019ve learned that resilience isn\u2019t about being unbreakable\u2014it\u2019s about coming back to yourself, again and again, no matter how many times life tries to pull you away. It\u2019s about bending, hurting, healing, and still choosing to stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So here I am, 47 years in\u2014not perfect, but present. Not finished, but evolving. I carry with me the pain of what I lost, but also the lessons it gave me. I move forward with more compassion, more self-awareness, and a deep commitment to keep showing up for myself. That\u2019s where real love begins\u2014with truth, with care, and with resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And from here on out, that\u2019s the foundation I\u2019m building on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
