ABA has been researched extensively and shown to be an effective treatment strategy that maintains over time. \u00a0ABA strategies can be used with all age groups (infants to elderly).<\/p>\n<p>Through the use of ABA, clinicians can assess skill deficits or behavioral barriers in multiple settings. These settings include home, school, community, or in the workplace. Following assessment, strategies are customized and implemented per the individual\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n<p>This occurs through the manipulation of reinforcers to create an engaging and effective learning environment, which naturally encourages the individual to learn, work, and demonstrate the skills independently.<\/p>\n<p>Maintaining progress is a key focus of ABA interventions. In addition to teaching skills across settings, the strategies used for skill sustainment are taught to the family of the individual. Throughout the treatment process, clinicians work in partnership with families to develop goals and extend learning across the day. However, the scientific literature overwhelmingly suggests that ABA is an effective treatment for individuals across many diagnoses and deficits including developmental disorders, intellectual disabilities, genetic conditions, and behavioral disorders.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;WHO CONDUCTS AN ABA SESSION?&#8221;]An ABA session is normally conducted by a registered behavior technician (RBT). The specific protocols and procedures implemented by the RBT are prescribed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) following the results of a behavior assessment and the development of a behavior intervention plan. The BCBA supervises the RBT to ensure treatment quality and efficacy, and to determine continuation of treatment. The BCBA is also responsible for conducting behavior assessments periodically to measure the learner\u2019s progress.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;WHAT DOES AN ABA SESSION LOOK LIKE?&#8221;]The structure of an ABA session is dependent on the needs of the learner, and is completely individualized for their specific goals and objectives. If the primary goal is language development, they will likely participate in discrete trial teaching (DTT), where the learner is taught skills on a 1:1 instruction with the RBT in an individual treatment room.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the session may also be held in the playroom, where the learner is taught skills naturalistically using play-based therapy (i.e., natural environment teaching or \u201cNET\u201d). If the learner\u2019s primary goal is to learn independent living skills, they will likely spend much of their time in a life skills room where they learn how to cook meals, do dishes, tie shoes, do laundry, etc. If the learner has social skills deficits, they may attend a social skills group with other learners where they are taught how to interact appropriately with peers. Oftentimes, the learner will have multiple goals, and will spend time engaging in a wide variety of activities throughout their sessions.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;WHERE DO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?&#8221;]Therapy sessions can take place in home or at our clinic location.
